Vending is a choice industry

Whilst no industry can be blamed for the obesity problem, the vending industry wants to be part of the solution. Its founding members, NAMA & EVA, are actively working with the governments and members to promote variety, a healthy diet and the importance of physical activity.

The programme 'Balanced for Life' is committed to tackling the problem of childhood obesity by delivering messages and promoting programmes that educate and empower school children to make balanced food and physical activity choices, both in and out of school, that support a healthy life. EVA is a founding member of the EU Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, a multi-stakeholder forum chaired by the European Commission. Under its aegis, the EVA has adopted a Best Practice Guidance, “Vending in Schools: a Matter of Choice”, and is working closely with other industries and NGO’s to jointly try and reverse the obesity trends through concrete actions. With the adoption of a “Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity and Health”, the WHO intends to promote action to reduce the obesity trend.

The Worldwide Vending Association’s aim is to work constructively with the WHO, so that positive action is taken to address the issue of obesity.  The WVA wishes to position vending as part of the solution.

Relations have been established with the WHO so that, in future, the WVA will be consulted and will participate in any relevant meeting or event.
